Urgent measures are being taken to prevent the threats that the coronavirus (COVİD - 19) disease might cause in the territory of Azerbaijan and to take preventive and immediate measures.

Relevant hospitals have been allocated and quarantine zones have been set up to identify coronavirus cases in the country. Mobile tents have been set up on the border with Islamic Republic of Iran to carry out preventive measures. In order to ensure health and safety of population it was decided temporarily to close the state border under restrictive regime with Iran starting from February 29, 16:00. Necessary measures have been taken to test people arriving from hotspots of coronavirus. Specialized hospitals and laboratories have been supplied with relevant equipment and medication for examination and treatment of the disease. Professional team of doctors were sent to the designated hospitals in regions.

Necessary measures continue for treatments of infected persons and identification of persons who have had personal contact with them. Intensive work is carried out jointly with the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent the spread of coronavirus and increase the effectiveness of appropriate preventive measures, and serious efforts are made to implement all the recommendations.

In addition, as a result of negotiations with China, Germany and other countries, relevant agreements were reached to bring the necessary equipment, medication and specialists to Azerbaijan.
All necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Azerbaijan, the sanitary and epidemiological situation is under strict control.

Due to the temporary closure of the border between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 29, appropriate measures are being taken to ensure the return of Azerbaijani citizens, who are currently in Iran. For this purpose, a flight from Iran to Azerbaijan will be organized on March 4 and, through a special corridor, citizens will be returned to the country. 

Citizens who wish to return to Azerbaijan must register at Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran and the Consulate General in Tabriz.
Azerbaijani citizens evacuated from Iran will be quarantined for medical examination. Pursuant to requirements of the World Health Organization, the quarantine period for the detection of coronavirus infection was defined between 14-29 days.

All citizens must comply with the requirements of quarantine regime to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
