4,585,307 health services were provided in 23 administrative territories covered by mandatory health insurance

The State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) has implemented mandatory health insurance from January 1, 2020 in 23 administrative territories: Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi, Gobustan, Ismayilli, Agsu, Shamakhi, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala, Goychay, Ujar, Zardab, Kurdamir, Mingachevir, Yevlakh, and Agdash.

During the first five months of the current year, 1,636,166 service requests were made to health facilities by 906,131 people in these areas. 4,585,307 medical services were provided according to these service requests. The regions with higher number of service requests were Mingachevir (240,093), Yevlakh (135,380), Khachmaz (114,385), Zagatala (111,711), and Sheki (104,544). The health facilities providing the most medical services were Mingachevir Central Hospital (1,085,076), as well as Central Hospitals of the Yevlakh (338,175), Agdash (337,022), Gusar (258,071), and Guba (254,415) regions.

It should be stated that, in order to ensure the efficient use of the resources and staff of health facilities, to optimize their operations, and to ensure access to various types of medical care for the population, the Agency has established regional medical divisions (RMD) in the administrative territorial units of the republic. At present, the implementation of mandatory health insurance covers five regional medical divisions. As for the number of service requests to RMD, the most service requests were made to Barda-Yevlakh RMD. 449,037 service requests were registered for the Barda-Yevlakh RMD, 428,025 for the Sheki-Zagatala RMD, 321,767 for the Guba-Khachmaz RMD, 228,746 for the Goychay-Kurdamir RMD, and 205,232 for the Shirvan RMD.

Most of the service requests were related to general medical examination (42,070). The most common diseases for which service requests were made include the following: unspecified acute upper respiratory tract infections (36,951), essential (primary) hypertension (30,628), non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (22,947), normal pregnancy observation (18,212), and general medical screenings and examinations of persons without complaints (17,169), amongst others.

A total of 1,021 vital and costly operations were performed. The most expensive surgeries were cardiology/cardiovascular surgery (554), ophthalmology (267), neurology/neurosurgery (76), urology (66), and traumatology (35).
