A media tour was organized to Malham International Hospital, where mandatory health insurance services are provided

The State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) organized a media tour to Malham International Hospital. The purpose of the media tour was to inform the media and non-governmental organizations on the implementation of the mandatory health insurance system in private health facilities contracted by the Agency and to allow them to monitor how patients benefit from the insurance system.

As part of the visit, the participants of the media tour visited the intensive care unit, operating room, and the radiology and cardiology departments of the hospital. Dr. Sevda Alizade, Executive Director of the Hospital, told the participants of the media tour about the medical services provided at the hospital under the Benefit Package of mandatory health insurance:

“The implementation of mandatory health insurance in Malham Hospital started in August of 2021. Requests to receive medical services under mandatory health insurance upon a referral were mainly related to cardiovascular surgery, cardiology, ophthalmology, traumatology, invasive radiology, urology, and other services. About 1,900 surgical operations were performed in the hospital under the mandatory health insurance in 2022 and 2023. These surgical operations include traumatological, ophthalmological, gynecological, urological, neurosurgery, invasive cardiological, invasive radiological, endoprosthetic replacement, cardiovascular system operations and procedures.”

Aynura Ahmadova, head of the Agency’s Marketing and Public Relations department said that the number of medical services provided under mandatory health insurance is increasing in the hospital every year:

"In 2022, 433 medical services were provided in the hospital. According to the indicators of 2023, citizens have benefited from 6,354 medical services. Of the medical services, 2,286 were provided in outpatient settings, and 4,068 in inpatient settings. I would like to mention that the aim of the Agency is to make medical services accessible to citizens and to increase the number of services within the scope of insurance. The Agency ensures that the services that cannot be provided in public health facilities are available in private health facilities through an efficient referral system. Currently, the number of contracted health facilities is 126."

The participants of the media tour visited a citizen who underwent a cardiovascular surgery within the scope of mandatory health insurance and asked about his opinion.

Later, representatives of media and non-governmental organizations underwent an ophthalmological examination at the hospital.

The event ended with a question-and-answer session.
