An event was held on the role of mandatory health insurance in the new phase of development of the Family Doctor Institute

On May 30, 2018with the initiative of the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (SAMHI) and with the support of the Ministry of Health (MH), a meeting was held with the students and residents of the Azerbaijani Medical University(AMU). The theme of the meeting was the role of mandatory health insurance in the new stage of development of the Family Doctor Institute.

Honorary doctor of the Republic of Azerbaijan, head of the Family Medicine department at the AMU, Mr. Mustafa Salihov in his speech said that there is a need to strengthen the role of the family doctor in healthcare. He highlighted that next year family doctor that the residency program will be will be opened at the University which would give opportunity for residents to be trained and become a Family Doctor after graduation.

The head of the department also noted that in 2002, the Department of Family Medicine was established on the basis of the Department of Polyclinic Therapy .

Later, Ms. Taranah Ahmadova ,a lead consultant of the Department of Science and Education of the Ministry of Health (MoH)H, informed the participants about the a range of activities, task organization and job duties of the family physician. She also pointed out that considering the role of the family physician in the provision of primary healthcare, , there will be a great need for these specialists in the future.

At the meeting, the head of the Department of Health Policy and Clinical Coding of SAMHI, Ms. Sharafet Ismayilova, spoke about the importance of developing a family institute within the framework of mandatory health insurance and informed the students about the future prospects of this field and related international experience. S.Ismayilova, who shared the experience gained during the pilot project for the development of the primary health care system, told the students that there would be a need for young professionals to build a new economic model of healthcare and informed them about the required rules.

At the end of the meeting questions of the students were answered.
