Azerbaijan and Korea sign memorandums aimed at improving the health insurance system

The delegation led by Zaur Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency), paid a visit to the Republic of Korea on 1-5 May.

During the visit, meetings were held with several state institutions of the Republic of Korea, prospects for the development of the health insurance system were discussed, and memorandums of understanding were signed, providing for additional opportunities for the expansion of partnership in this field.

The memorandum signed between the Agency and the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) of the Republic of Korea aims to improve the health insurance system and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in this field. The document also envisages the exchange of information and best practices, joint seminars, conferences, training for professionals, experience and exchange programs. The memorandum covers issues such as the management of insurance compliance and insurance payments, collection of insurance fees, organization of the work in health facilities, efficiency of insurance finance, public awareness-raising on health.

The memorandum signed between the Agency and the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) of the Republic of Korea covers the purchase of medical services, including the verification of medical claims for the services provided, the formation of the Benefit Package, setting of tariffs for medicines and medical devices, and the development and improvement of payment mechanisms, promoting the exchange of experience in the fields of the quality of medical services and the application of information technologies. The cooperation with HIRA is aimed at further improving the quality of service in the health insurance system by acquiring the knowledge and experience it shares with the international community and with organizations. The memorandum also envisages joint research in the fields of health insurance of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Korea, with the results published in international journals.

It should be noted that NHIS is a government agency that provides citizens with health insurance, and HIRA is a government agency responsible for quality control and assessment under the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
