Childbirth and classic caesarean sections are free of charge under mandatory health insurance
Screening tests in pregnancy, outpatient and inpatient care for pregnant women are covered by the Benefit Package of mandatory health insurance.
Medical services include prenatal obstetric and gynecological care and dispensary monitoring. Also, observation during pregnancy and postpartum period, issue of referrals to medical facilities for treatment are carried out during preventive examinations. These services are provided in order to prevent complications that may occur during pregnancy and to protect the health of mother and child.
During the physiological course of pregnancy, a pregnant woman is recommended to visit a medical facility seven times. Medical services such as arterial pressure measurement, pulse count, assessment of body mass index, blood sugar, blood group, hemoglobin blood test, urinalysis are provided to the pregnant woman under the Benefit Package.
Additionally, tests for hepatitis B and C, syphilis, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), screenings for rubella/roetheln, and cervical smear test are covered by mandatory health insurance.

To use medical services, a pregnant woman should first visit the women's clinic, Family Health Center, or other outpatient medical facilities in her area. After the 30th week of pregnancy, the medical facility issues an exchange card, and the pregnant woman is referred to a qualified state medical facility under the authority of the Administration of Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) for the management of childbirth.
Diagnostic assessment of the fetus (fetal MRI) and maternal serum screening for Down syndrome (in the form of separate laboratory tests) are provided by the Benefit Package.
Childbirth and classical cesarean section surgery are free of charge, as are the related medication, medical supplies, and nutrition during hospitalization, laboratory and instrumental examination, diagnostics, and treatment measures. A classic caesarean section operation is performed on the basis of a medical indication. Keeping premature babies in a humidicrib is also covered by mandatory health insurance.
It should be noted that, in the postpartum period, the examination and treatment of women, the observation of newborns, and consultation on breastfeeding are provided free of charge.
It should be noted that, to improve the quality and efficiency of medical services provided to mothers and children, the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance has purchased modern medical equipment, devices, and tools. The equipment will be used for various examinations and treatments of pregnant women and of children in the prenatal, neonatal, and postneonatal periods.
