Civil society organized informative activities on mandatory health insurance

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have completed awareness activities on mandatory health insurance that started on August 2019 in different regions of the country. The awareness activities were organized at the initiative of the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) and financial support of the Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The events were held in 19 districts and cities - Baku, Sumgait, Shirvan, Shamkir, Lankaran, Lerik, Masalli, Shamakhi, Ismayilli, Sabirabad, Zaqatala, Khachmaz, Gakh, Balakan, Aghdam, Ujar, Goychay, Astara and Jalilabad.
In addition, residents of Alibeyli, Shikhlar, Ilisu villages of Gakh district, Tulu, Garavalli, Katekh villages of Balakan district, Guzanli, Dordyol-1, Yuz Evler, Yeni Imamqulubeyli-1 settlements of Aghdam district, as wells as Ahmadagli, Chiragli villages of the latter district were informed about mandatory health insurance system.

District and village residents, IDPs, individual entrepreneurs, medical workers,  representatives of local NGOs, communities and ethnic minorities, as well as prisoners preparing for release have been informed about mandatory health insurance by means of participating in various types of  events (training, seminar, information session, roundtable, public discussions and television debates.) At the end of the events, awareness brochures were passed out to participants and their questions were answered. Meetings and events organized by NGOs gained wide coverage in local media.

This year the topic on “The initiatives to raise public awareness of mandatory health insurance”  for the first time were added to the list of grant competition topics funded by the Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to the results of evaluation 8 NGOs were announced winners on abovementioned topic. The following NGOs actively participated in awareness raising campaign on mandatory health insurance: Pediatric Cardiology Rheumatology, Fight against Communicable Diseases, Military Surgeons, Public Awareness, Center for Support of Free Economic Development, Economists of Turkic States, Service for Healthcare, Support for Youth Social Development. The representatives of Agency held meeting with directors and project coordinators of NGOs winning grant competition to inform on mandatory health insurance system, ensure the accuracy of the information conveyed to the public, increase the effectiveness of the projects and thus to achieve successful results.
