During August of 2021, more than 687 000 medical services were provided to the population of the regional divisions of Baku and Sumgayit

According to the preliminary reports submitted to the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) by health facilities where mandatory health insurance has beenintroduced, a total of 687 284 medical services were provided to the population of Baku and Sumgayit cities during August of current year. 172 903 services were provided on Baku RMD (regional medical division) and 39 214 services were provided on Sumgayit RMD (detailed information on RMD can be found in the link). During this period 322 297 inquiries were received by the medical facilities, their structural divisions and treatment and diagnostic centers. Based on 497 622 medical services were provided on an outpatient basis and 189 662 on an inpatient basis.

Here are some statistics on the medical services provided to the population of the abovementioned regional medical divisions in August of current year:

The top ten districts of Baku city according to the number of inquiries received by medical facilities per 1000 (thousand) people: Pirallahy (203), Narimanov (202), Yasamal (186), Sabunchy (176), Nasimi (148), Khazar (144), Sabail (113), Surakhany (93), Garadagh (49) and Binagady (49).

The number of inquiries received by medical facilities per 1000 (thousand) people in Sumgayit city was 102.

The top ten health facilities providing the most services1: Sumgayit Medical Center (104 559), Clinical Medical Center (81 536), the Republican Clinical Hospital named after Academician M.A.Mirgasimov (72 479), City Clinical Hospital No. 3 (52 225), City Clinical Hospital No. 5 (45 021), Scientific-Research Institute of Pediatrics named after K.Farajova (40 354), United City Hospital No. 6 named after A.D.Malikov (21 819), United City Hospital No. 26 (17 505), Scientific-Research Institute of Cardiology named after Academician J.M.Abdullayev (14 930) and Children's Polyclinic No. 13 (10 857).

The top ten health facilities providing the most outpatient services: Sumgayit Medical Center, the Republican Clinical Hospital named after Academician M.A.Mirgasimov, City Clinical Hospital No. 5, City Clinical Hospital No. 3, Clinical Medical Center, Scientific-Research Institute of Pediatrics named after K.Farajova, United City Hospital No. 6 named after A.D.Malikov, United City Hospital No 26, Scientific-Research Institute of Cardiology named after Academician J.M.Abdullayev, Children's Polyclinic No. 13.

The top ten health facilities providing the most inpatient services: Clinical Medical Center, Sumgayit Medical Center, Scientific-Research Institute of Pediatrics named after K.Farajova, the Republican Clinical Hospital named after Academician M.A.Mirgasimov, City Clinical Hospital No. 3, City Clinical Hospital No. 5, United City Hospital No. 6 named after A.D.Malikov, United City Hospital No 26, Republican Perinatal Center and Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics.

The majority of inquiries received by the medical facilities on RMDs of Baku and Sumgayit cities were related to medical examinations (including examinations of conscripts), diseases of the circulatory system, endocrine system, metabolic and nutritional disorders, respiratory system diseases, digestive problems, musculoskeletal system diseases, diseases of connective tissue, traumas and poisoning, problems of obstetrics and gynecology, nervous system diseases, urogenital problems.

575 142 medical services were provided by the Regional Medical Division (RMD) of Baku city and 112 142  medical services were provided by Sumgayit RMD during August of 2021.

According to the official information as of 01.01.2020, the total population registered in Baku and Sumgayit RMDs was 3 047 000.

It should be noted, that a total 2 165 265 medical services were provided to 594 898 people on 959 227 inquiries in August of the current year. Upon inquiries 1 797 382 medical services were provided on an outpatient basis and 367 883 on an inpatient basis. 

According to the reports received by the Agency, during January-August of 2021 year 15 238 referrals were issued to medical facilities operating on a contractual basis for inpatient surgical services that can not be provided in state health facilities of the country and requiring special medical equipment and supplies. 6118 of these referrals were on invasive radiology, 2499 on radiology, 1999 on ophthalmology, 1361 on urology, 1222 on cardiovascular surgery, 705 on neurosurgery, 231 on traumatology, 201 on cardiology, and 15 on gynecology. The number of referrals issued on other areas was 887.

It should be noted that 14239 (93%) of the referrals were issued on a scheduled basis, and 999 (7%) on an urgent basis.

According to preliminary estimates, during January-August of 2021 year, 9 664 people were referred to medical facilities operating on a contractual basis for operations and services that can not be provided in state health facilities and requiring special medical equipment and supplies. 297 of those persons were children. 3712 people over 18 years of age were provided with invasive radiology (angiography) services. The majority of operations were in cardiovascular surgery (3057), ophthalmology (1347), urology (641), neurosurgery (383),  traumatology (279), Ear Nose Throat (137), other surgical operations (55), general surgery (43),  obstetrics and gynecology (10). 125 of the patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery were under 18 years of age. It should be noted that, the provision of medical services by contracted health facilities on the basis of referrals and the registration of such services in the electronic register continues.

In January-August this year, 2 812 918 people applied to health facilities and received 13 207 556  medical services. Of these services, 10 734 244 (81%) were provided to persons over 18 years of age, and 2 473 312 (19%) to persons under 18 years of age.

[1] Note: As a result of the structural reforms, 11 medical centers in Baku and 1 medical center in Sumgayit have been established on the basis of multidisciplinary inpatient and specialized polyclinic services in Baku and Sumgayit since May (excluding Zangilan and Gubadli Regional Central Hospitals).
