Expansion of contracted medical facilities to 140 enhances healthcare accessibility

The State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (the Agency) has significantly increased the number of contracted medical facilities, encompassing both private establishments and those supervised by relevant state bodies. This expansion, from 115 to 140, is aimed at enhancing the accessibility of medical services for citizens covered under the Benefit Package.

The contracted medical facilities operate in various cities and regions, including Absheron, Guba, Gusar, Ismayilli, Shamakhi, Gabala, Sheki, Zagatala, Shamkir, Tovuz, Mingachevir, Barda, Kurdamir, Sabirabad, Imishli, Shirvan, Salyan, Masalli, and Lankaran, in addition to Baku, Ganja, and Sumgait.

Notably, 81% of the contracted medical facilities are located in the cities of Baku, Ganja, and Sumgayit, with the remaining 19% situated in the regions.

From January to August of this year, contracted medical facilities provided 100,550 medical services under mandatory health insurance to citizens with referrals. Among the beneficiaries, 1,906 were children, and 98,644 were adults. The provided services encompassed various operations and procedures, including:

  • 32,708 cardiovascular services;
  • 29,645 ophthalmological services;
  • 23,321 invasive radiological services.

A total of 3,315 medical services were offered to citizens within the scope of the Benefit Package of mandatory health insurance. These services are available in state medical facilities supervised by the public legal entity Administration of Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) and nine scientific-research institutes of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In cases where the required service is unavailable in state medical facilities, a referral is issued to a medical facility contracted by the Agency. Citizens who present this referral at a contracted medical facility can avail themselves of medical services free of charge within the Benefit Package.

However, citizens who directly approach contracted medical facilities without a referral form will be responsible for covering the expenses incurred for the medical services received.

For the convenience of citizens, the list, addresses, and contact numbers of the medical facilities contracted by the Agency are regularly updated and posted on the Agency's official website (https://its.gov.az/page).
