Hospitals are equipped with modern ultrasonography machines for functional diagnostics

The State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) has purchased 98 medical equipment for the ultrasound examination of internal organs. Of these devices, 61 are ultrasonography machines intended for a wide range of clinical examinations.

Examinations of the abdominal cavity, small pelvic organs, the thyroid gland, mammary glands, lower and upper extremities, and other organs will be carried out by these devices. The purpose of supplying health facilities with modern medical diagnostic equipment is to improve the quality of medical services provided to the population under the mandatory health insurance.

There are 35 newly purchased pieces of echocardiography (EchoCG) equipment for the diagnosis of heart diseases that will be provided to hospitals. EchoCG examines the heart, heart valves, large vessels, and more. It is an important ultrasound examination method used to diagnose heart failure, congenital and acquired heart defects, and other heart diseases.

There are plans to deliver two pachymeters purchased for the examination of eye diseases to hospitals. In modern ophthalmology, this device examines the eyeball, retina, and optic nerve with ultrasound waves. The device diagnoses diseases such as glaucoma and intraocular pressure. Unlike traditional visual examination, the pachymeter allows the ophthalmologist to make an accurate diagnosis.

Ultrasound examination is one of the most widely used methods in the diagnosis of diseases because it is accessible, informative, and safe. One of the advantages of this examination method is that the body is not exposed to harmful radioactive radiation. Instead, the patient's organs and tissues are examined by ultrasound waves.

The Benefit Package of mandatory health insurance includes diagnostic services performed by the ultrasound examination method. This covers ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity, thoracic and pelvic organs, mammary gland, thyroid gland, parotid gland, salivary gland, and eye and brain. Additionally, ultrasound examinations (such as color dopplerography of veins and arteries, echocardiography, and cardiotocography) are fully covered within mandatory health insurance.

Twenty-four machines intended for ultrasound examination have already been distributed to medical facilities supervised by the Baku City General Health Center. Other machines are planned to be delivered in 2023 in accordance with the needs of state medical facilities attached to the Administration of Regional Medical Divisions.

In 2022, the Agency purchased a total of 1,768 pieces of equipment, devices, tools, and supplies of 108 types. These will be used to provide medical services in both outpatient and inpatient conditions in state health facilities.
