INFORMATION from the Ministry of Health, the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance and TABIB

In accordance with the "Vaccination Strategy against COVID-19 in the Republic of Azerbaijan for the years 2021 and 2022", the process of vaccination continues in the country.

The new strain "Omicron", which has recently appeared as a result of mutations in the coronavirus, is a serious concern in Azerbaijan, as well as around the world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the new strain, which was first identified on November 24th, had a higher rate of re-infection than previous mutations, and rated the risk of the Omicron strain of the coronavirus as "high".

Information on the development and infectivity of the new mutation is expected in the coming days. We would like to inform our citizens that the health authorities of the country are monitoring the new strain, the international experience with mutations, and new cases of infection.

The Omicron strain, which was first seen in South Africa, was soon found in many countries: the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Italy.

The results of research show once again that the most effective way to protect against new and rapidly spreading dangerous strains of the virus is vaccination. As a result of the active participation of the population in vaccination, the epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan has remained stable.

Health authorities are urging our citizens to be vaccinated with a booster dose without hesitation, to be protected against the new strain.

In addition to vaccination, the special quarantine requirements must be followed. Keeping the correct physical distance, using masks, and hand hygiene are the only way to prevent the illness and return to normal life, regardless of the variant of the virus.
