More than 8 million medical services were provided under mandatory health insurance last year

According to the preliminary reports submitted to the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) by the Central District Hospitals and their structural divisions in 2020, as well as Medical Diagnostic Centers operating in 23 administrative territories where mandatory health insurance has been applied, a total of 1,177,834 people applied to these health facilities, with 4,170,432 inquiries. 8,339,508 medical services were provided on these appeals. 50% of the officially registered populations in these areas were able to benefit from the services of medical facilities.

The five cities and regions with the highest number of appeals received by medical facilities: Mingachevir city (449,837), Khachmaz (348,856), Agdash (328,756), Zagatala (291,814), and Yevlakh (275,779) regions.

The medical facilities providing the most medical services are Mingachevir City Central Hospital (1,156,586), Khachmaz (615,557), Agdash (512,834), Yevlakh (512,451), and Sheki (510,891) Central District Hospitals.

Most of the appeals were related to general medical examination (including examination of conscripts) (503,381), as well as disorders of the circulatory system (210,201), respiratory system (179,376), endocrine system, metabolic, and nutritional systems (171,622), and diseases of the urogenital system (148,907) and digestive system (135,803).

According to preliminary estimates, in 2020, the hospitals provided 255,538 surgical services. In addition, 2,176 people were referred to contracted medical facilities for surgical operations that could not be performed in public medical facilities, or those that require special medical equipment and guarantees, 103 of whom were children. The majority of operations are in cardiovascular surgery (1,252), ophthalmology (402), urology (207), neurosurgery (179), and traumatology (80). The number of cardiovascular surgery operations on children was 68. This is according to the registration and processing of information on the surgical profile in the electronic register by medical institutions continues.

It should be noted that, to ensure the efficient use of resources and staff of medical facilities subordinated to the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions and to optimize their activities and ensure public access to various types of medical care, the Agency established 13 Regional Medical Divisions (RMD) in the administrative units of the country. At present, the application of mandatory health insurance covers 5 RMDs and Sumgayit RMD which covers Khizi region.  As for the number of appeals to RMD in 2020, most appeals were made to Sheki-Zagatala RMD. The number of appeals made to RMDs of various regions was as follows: 1,345,727 for Sheki-Zagatala, 1,054,372 for Barda-Yevlakh, 729,871 for Guba-Khachmaz, 623,978 for Goychay-Kurdamir, 403,146 for Mountainous Shirvan, and 13,336 for Khizi.

The updated report for 2020 will be prepared at the end of March this year.

It should be noted that mandatory health insurance has been introduced by the Agency from January 1, 2020 in 23 administrative territories - Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi, Gobustan, Ismayilli, Agsu, Shamakhi, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala, Goychay, Ujar, Zardab, Kurdamir, Mingachevir, Yevlakh, and Agdash. The total population in these areas is 2,256,000.
