Participants of Patriotic War and family members of martyrs were provided with more than 120000 medical services in 2021

According to requests received by the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency), state medical entities subordinated to the Administration of Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB), as well as requests forwarded by the YASHAT Foundation, 124 055 medical services were provided to participants in the Second Karabakh War and martyrs' families in 2021.

108607 of the medical services provided under the mandatory health insurance’s Benefit Package were provided on an outpatient basis while 15448 medical services were rendered to inpatients. Out of the 8544 people who received medical care, 7685 were war veterans and 859 were family members of martyrs.

The requests for medical services by the participants of the Second Karabakh War were mainly related to injuries caused by explosions or shrapnel (2730), the care of surgical dressings and sutures (1789), wounds caused by firearms and other weapons (1188) and post-operative conditions (1136).

Problems of the martyr's family members were mostly related to angina - ischemic heart disease (796), essential hypertension- high blood pressure (463), chronic post-traumatic headaches (411), general medical examination (197) and chronic kidney disease (191).

Last year, 490 surgical procedures were performed on 290 war veterans and 62 family members of martyrs with mandatory health insurance.  A total of 352 patients were provided with services for explosion or shrapnel injuries (31), postoperative conditions (29), second degree thermal burns of head and neck (18), inguinal hernia (12), femoral shaft fracture (11).

The Agency is sensitive to issues such as ensuring accessibility of medical services for participants of the Second Karabakh War and members of the families of martyrs, prompt response to their inquiries, and investigation of their complaints. The Agency takes all necessary steps to ensure that these persons undergo a qualified medical examination, re-examination, clinical laboratory, and instrumental diagnostic examinations, as well as benefit from medical services of healthcare facilities operating on a contractual basis with Agency.

The Agency will continue to take all important measures in accordance with the state policy of strengthening care for treatment of persons who were wounded defending the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as for health recovery of family members of the martyrs.
