Starting January 1, mandatory health insurance will be introduced in 36 cities and regions

Starting January 1, 2021, the second stage of mandatory health insurance will be introduced in Azerbaijan. Thus, 36 more cities and regions of the country will join the mandatory health insurance system, including Ganja, Naftalan, Shirvan, Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Shamkir, Gadabay, Dashkasan, Samukh, Goygol, Goranboy, Khojaly, Beylagan, Khojavend, Agjabadi, Lachin, Barda, Fuzuli, Aghdam, Tartar, Kalbajar, Astara, Lankaran, Lerik, Yardimli, Masalli, Jalilabad, Neftchala, Bilasuvar, Jabrayil, Salyan, Imishli, Saatli, Sabirabad, and Hajigabul.

In the last third stage, starting April 1, 2021, the populations of Baku, Sumgayit, Absheron, Khankendi, Gubadli, Zangilan and Shusha will be covered by mandatory health insurance.

It should be noted that, since January 1, 2020, mandatory health insurance has been in effect in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Mingachevir, Gusar, Khachmaz, Guba, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi, Gobustan, Ismayilli, Agsu, Shamakhi, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala, Goychay, Ujar, Zardab, Kurdamir, Yevlakh, and Agdash districts.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Health Insurance,” as well as the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 136 dated April 10, 2020, the application of mandatory health insurance will be provided throughout the country in 2021.
