The Asian Development Bank and the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance held a joint reporting event

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the State Agency on Mandatory Health (Agency) held a joint reporting event at “Yeni Klinika” medical facility on September 24, 2020. The event was dedicated to the outcomes of the regional support project on the technical assistance to mitigate the negative effects of novel COVID-19 and potential outbreaks of other communicable diseases.

The event was attended by Nigar Bayramova, the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of the Agency, Nariman Mannapbekov, Azerbaijan Country Director of ADB, representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Agency delivering the opening speech said that there is a need for interaction and cooperation among the countries to implement measures against the coronavirus pandemic:

In this regard, the participation of ADB, which is a key development partner for the countries of Asia and the Pacific region, is of particular importance. ADB has participated in the financing of a number of regional projects to date initiated by Azerbaijan. As another example of cooperation and support, under the project in question ADB’s Azerbaijan office has allocated technical assistance in the amount of 455.000 USD to our country. The assistance includes personal protective equipment for healthcare workers, coveralls, N95 respirator masks, safety glasses and other medical supplies.

N.Bayramova thanked the Azerbaijan Country Director of ADB for the technical assistance and support.

N.Mannapbekov said that fruitful cooperation with Agency, Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions and other competent authorities made possible the delivery of personal protective equipment to Azerbaijan in four stages:

More urgent and light goods were delivered in two shipments by air and others by sea. These include personal protective equipment, packages for biological harmful substances and respirators that help protect healthcare staff working at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus, prevent the spread of infection and strengthen control.”

He said that ADB will continue to work with Azerbaijani government and its development partners to allocate additional resources for Azerbaijan’s response to the pandemic.
