The joint statement of the Ministry of Health, State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance and TABIB

The nationwide vaccination in underway in accordance with the “Vaccination Strategy against COVID-19 disease in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2021-2022”.

The new variant of Omicron, which has recently emerged due to coronavirus mutations, is a matter of serious concern in Azerbaijan, as well as around the world.

Regular study of genetic variants of the virus is carried out as part of the actions taken to control the epidemiological situation in our country.

In the next stage of the conducted research SARS-CoV-2 21K Omicron variant was detected in 12 samples taken from foreigners arriving from abroad.

The research suggests once again that the vaccination is the most effective way to protect against the new and rapidly spreading variants of the virus. The active participation of population in vaccination allowed the epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan to remain stable.

Considering that the level of protective immunity falls after the second dose or 6 months after recovery from the disease, health authorities urge our citizens to get vaccinated with a booster dose to raise the antibody levels to protect against the new strain.

In addition to vaccination, the rules of a special quarantine regime must be followed. Rules such as maintaining physical distance, wearing masks, and hand hygiene are the only way to prevent illness and return to normal life, regardless of the variant of virus.
