The second phase of mandatory health insurance will be implemented in July

The changes made to the Resolution No. 504 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the "Sequence of implementation of mandatory health insurance in the administrative territorial divisions of the country”. According to the resolution, mandatory health insurance will be introduced  in three stages. In the second stage, mandatory health insurance will be introduced in 21 administrative territorial divisions, which will be included in the system together with the 15 administrative territorial divisions planned for the third stage. Thus, the introduction of mandatory health insurance in the second phase will be carried out in July, not in April.

Starting July 1, mandatory health insurance will be introduced in the cities Ganja, Naftalan and Shirvan, and also in the following towns: Gazakh, Agstafa, Tovuz, Shamkir, Gadabay, Dashkasan, Samukh, Goygol, Goranboy, Khojaly, Beylagan, Khojavand, Agjabadi, Lachin, Barda, Fizuli, Agdam, Tartar, Kalbajar, Astara, Lankaran, Lerik, Yardimli, Masalli, Jalilabad, Neftchala, Bilasuvar, Jabrayil, Salyan, Imishli, Saatli, Sabirabad, and Hajigabul.

Starting October 1, citizens registered in Baku, Sumgayit, Absheron, Khankendi, Gubadli, Zangilan, and Shusha will be able to benefit from mandatory health insurance.
The reason for the amendment made to the resolution was to mobilize the staff and material resources of a number of government agencies, including the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) and the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABİB) to fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the country. The situation with the coronavirus infection requires that the Agency and TABİB, as well as all healthcare facilities and medical workers, be prepared for an unstable sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country and that they use all their power and efforts to the fight against the virus.

It should be noted that, currently, mandatory health insurance is being implemented in 23 cities and regions (Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi, Shamakhi, Ismayilli, Agsu, Gobustan, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala, Goychay, Ujar, Zardab , Kurdamir, Mingachevir, Agdash, and Yevlakh).
