The second phase of “Veteran’s Empowerment Project” came to an end

On May 13, the event was held on the completion of the second phase of the “Veteran’s empowerment project to deliver psychosocial support training for service providers in Azerbaijan”.

The project is implemented with the initiative and organization of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency), Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB), Social Services Agency, Social Development Center of Education and Social Solidarity Association (TOGEM-DER), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Ankara University and Ankara Chamber of Commerce.

The project aims to increase the knowledge and skills of psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers providing local services to the families of martyrs and veterans in our country and to achieve the improvement of the spiritual and psychological condition of family members of war veterans and martyrs.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Agency Zaur Aliyev, Acting Chairman of the Board of TABIB Vugar Qurbanov, Chairman of Board of Togem-Der Füsun Türken Uysal, Dean of Medicine Department of Ankara University Emine Özmete, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Cahit Bağcı, Chairman of the Petition Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, MP Mihrimah Belma Satır addressed the event.

Zaur Aliyev thanked the institutions of the Republic of Turkey that supported the project. He expressed confidence that this experience will be useful for the participants, adding that the Agency is committed to develop relations with brotherly country.

“We always try to deepen cooperation with health authorities of Turkey, regularly organize mutual visits and meetings to study the experience of Turkey in the field of mandatory health insurance and healthcare and jointly implement projects,”- he said.

The Chairman of the Executive Board also emphasized that war veterans and family members of martyrs are always surrounded with state care. He added that Agency takes actions in this regard.

“Almost 6500 Patriotic War participants and family members of martyrs were provided with more than 47000 medical services under mandatory health insurance in January-April 2022.”

The Acting Chairman of the Executive Board of TABIB Vugar Gurbanov underlined the constant support of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan.

“Undoubtedly, the role of Turkish doctors in restoring the health of our veterans who fought heroically in our rightful war is undeniable. As part of cooperation dozens of our soldiers, who were sent to Turkey for surgery by the Yaşat Foundation so far, returned to our homeland after being recovered in the brotherly country,”- said V. Gurbanov.

 Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan Cahit Bağcı spoke about the development of relations between the two countries and the importance of this project.

“It is encouraging to note that the closing ceremony of this important project coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan. We will spare no effort to ensure longevity of such social projects. We’ll try to involve other universities and socially oriented non-governmental organizations in Turkey to that end,”-  said Ambassador Cahit Bağcı.

At the end of the event, trainers and trainees were awarded with letters of appreciation and certificates, respectively.

It should be noted that webinars were held as part of the first phase of the project in March of this year. Three-day workshop held in Baku this may helped to improve obtained knowledge and skills. More than 70 employees participated in the project.
