Trainings on improvement of equipment use in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit completed

In November and December of this year, trainings in the regions jointly organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (SAMHI) on the Improvement of Equipment Use in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit completed. The trainings were held in the cities of Mingachevir, Lankaran and Shirvan, as well as in Gazakh, Tovuz, Shaki, Zagatala, Gakh, Neftchala and Sabirabad regions. Along with physicians-neonatologists and nurses working in the medical institutions of the mentioned regions, health professionals working in the relevant fields in Masalli, Lerik, Gabala, Saatli, Zardab, Hajigabul, Imishli, Beylagan and Aghjabadi also participated in the trainings.

The trainings were conducted to provide timely, quality, sustainable primary and intensive assistance to newborns, methodological recommendations on rehabilitation of vital organs and systems, as well as to train healthcare workers how to properly use medical equipment.

The trainers were Nargiz Sharifova, Deputy Head of the Department of Medical Care of the Ministry of Health, Senior Neonatologist Rustam Huseynov, Chair of the Special Commission on Improvement of Neonatal Care of the Ministry of Health, Aynur Baghirova, Specialist of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Scientific-Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

During the training, participants were informed about the benefits of breastfeeding, how to deal with difficulties in feeding, including the use of medical equipment in neonatal intensive care. In addition, the medical staff was provided on-the-job trainings to improve ability how to use the neonatal equipment.

The trainings were conducted in the framework of the WHO primary health care project. Primary health care is widely used in international practice and its effectiveness has been proved in maximizing the cost effectiveness of health care. Primary health care, which plays a major role in protecting the health of the population, is an important component in the development of mandatory health insurance.
