Zaur Aliyev held a meeting with the Stop TB Partnership representatives

On April 5, the Chairman of the Executive Board of the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) Zaur Aliyev held a meeting with Lucica Ditiu, the Executive Director of the Stop Tuberculosis Partnership and the delegation accompanying her during the visit to Azerbaijan.

The Chairman of the Executive Board of the Agency said that Azerbaijan is one of the countries that takes actions to combat tuberculosis in an organized manner. Z.Aliyev added that the diagnosis and treatment of the disease in Azerbaijan is carried out as part of action program to prevent tuberculosis. It was noted that it is important to strengthen the prevention and response measures against tuberculosis. Cooperation opportunities for provision of technical support to Azerbaijan by Stop TB Partnership and managing the supply of antituberculosis medicines within Partnership’s Global Drug Facility as well as assuring quality control of medicines were discussed at the meeting. The parties also had an exchange of views on importance of raising comprehensive public awareness campaign about disease.

It was noted that in many cases the fear of stigma in society causes people to hide their illness because of which they apply for medical assistance when their health is deteriorated leading to increase the number of tuberculosis cases.

The meeting was also attended by the Acting Chairman of the Board of the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) Vugar Gurbanov, Head of Strategic Development Department of TABIB Yagut Garayeva, Head of the International Relations Department Ruslan Abdullayev, Director of Scientific-Research Institute of Pulmonary Diseases Hagigat Qadirova, Advocacy and Technical Officer at Stop TB Partnership Asgar Ismayilov, Regional Advisor Natavan Alikhanova and Communication Officer of the Stop TB Partnership Honey Mehta, Director of NGO Coalition against tuberculosis and “Support to Health” Public Union Elchin Mukhtarli.

It should be noted that the Executive Director of Stop TB Partnership and the delegation accompanying her who are paying a visit to Azerbaijan, attended the conference dedicated to the World Tuberculosis Day on April 4.
