Medical examinations and treatment of the veterans and family members of martyrs of the Second Karabagh War continue

During December 2020, January and February 2021, a total of 13,158 medical services were provided to veterans and family members of the martyrs of the Second Karabagh War under the mandatory health insurance. 10,962 services were provided for outpatients and 2,196 for inpatients. 1,754 of the 2,172 people who received medical services were war veterans and 418 were members of martyrs' families. 

The inquiries received by the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) and public health facilities under the supervision of the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) were mainly related to mixed anxiety and depressive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, neurasthenia, stress-related headaches, processing of surgical bandages and sutures, and cardiovascular diseases. Qualified medical examinations, re-examinations, and clinical laboratory and diagnostic examinations were carried out on the applicants, and all necessary steps were taken for their treatment. 18 war veterans and family members of martyrs underwent surgery in relation to ophthalmological, urological, traumatological, gynecological, otorhinolaryngological diseases and general surgery and all recovered.

Vugar Gurbanov, head of the Medical Claims Department of the Agency, said that a medical team from the Republic of Turkey was invited to Azerbaijan in February this year under the joint organization of the Agency and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and with the support of the YASHAT Foundation. The medical team included orthopedists, brain surgeons, general surgeons and other specialist doctors. The doctors invited from Turkey examined 155 battle wounded military men at the Head Clinical Hospital of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, the Rehabilitation Center in Buzovna settlement, the Baku Health Center, the Republican Neurosurgery Hospital, and the Educational Surgical Clinic of Azerbaijan Medical University (AMU).

Vugar Gurbanov said that doctors mainly performed examination on war veterans who were being treated at the above-mentioned specialized health facilities and discharged veteran patients. “The military men were grouped according to the severity of their injuries occurred in combat and medical reports were carried out on their health condition. According to the results of the examinations, the condition of 5 veterans was assessed as extremely severe, and it is planned to invite a neurosurgeon from Turkey, together with his team, to carry out surgery. The relevant arrangements have been made for this purpose." 

The Agency will continue to take all necessary measures in line with the state policy on improving public care to ensure recovery and treatment of persons wounded while defending territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as family members of the martyrs.
