Specialized medical examinations conducted in children's shelters

02.06.2025, 09:57

At the initiative of the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (the Agency), specialized medical examinations were organized for children residing in shelters across Baku. The primary aim of this initiative is the early detection of health issues among vulnerable populations and the timely prevention of potential complications.

On June 1, in honor of International Children’s Day, medical examinations were conducted at several shelters, including the “Umid Yeri” Children’s Shelter, Reintegration Center, operated by the Public Union "Children of Azerbaijan" and the “Tamiz Dunya” Women’s Aid Public Union. A total of 119 individuals participated in the campaign.

The examinations covered children, adolescents, and women living in these shelters, all of whom received services included in the Mandatory Health Insurance Benefits Package. Medical personnel from Nizami Medical Center, Children’s Polyclinic No. 11, and United City Hospital No. 4, under the jurisdiction of TABIB, were involved in the examinations.

Residents were evaluated by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including a pediatrician, otolaryngologist, surgeon, neurologist, ophthalmologist, cardiologist, dermatologist, gynecologist, radiologist, and psychiatrist. The screenings revealed a range of health concerns, including chronic tonsillitis, heart rhythm disorders, and gynecological, endocrinological, and ophthalmological issues. Laboratory tests were also conducted to assess overall health status, with results indicating widespread vitamin D deficiency among residents.

In certain cases, further medical intervention—such as treatment or surgery—was deemed necessary. The Agency ensured that affected individuals were referred to the appropriate healthcare facilities and provided with prescribed medications free of charge.

The Agency remains committed to supporting vulnerable populations by facilitating their timely access to medical care and treatment. This initiative reflects the Agency’s ongoing dedication to promoting health equity and ensuring no one is left behind.
