5,452,520 health services were provided in 23 administrative territories covered by mandatory health insurance

The State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) has been implementing mandatory health insurance from January 1, 2020 in 23 administrative territories - Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Shabran, Siyazan, Khizi, Gobustan, Ismayilli, Agsu, Shamakhi, Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, Oguz, Gabala, Goychay, Ujar, Zardab, Kurdamir, Mingachevir, Yevlakh, and Agdash.

During the first 6 months of the current year, 1,934,293 requests for medical services to health facilities were registered in these areas. 5,452,520 medical services were provided according to these service requests. The regions with higher number of service requests are Mingachevir (289,198), Yevlakh (153,050), Zagatala (137,906), Khachmaz (133,270), and Sheki (123,253). The health facilities providing the most medical services are Mingachevir Central Hospital (1,274,694), as well as Central Hospitals of Yevlakh (379,846), Agdash (413,111), Sheki (304,595), and Guba (322,440) regions.

It should be stated that, in order to ensure the efficient use of resources and staff of health facilities, optimize their operation, and ensure the population access to various types of medical care, the Agency has established regional medical divisions (RMD) of the administrative territorial units of the republic. At present, the implementation of mandatory health insurance covers 5 regional medical divisions. As for the number of service requests to RMD, most service requests were made to Barda-Yevlakh RMD. 531,413 service requests were registered for Barda-Yevlakh RMD, 511,642 for Sheki-Zagatala RMD, 379,225 for Guba-Khachmaz RMD, 270,448 for Goychay-Kurdamir RMD, and 237,663 for Mountainous Shirvan RMD.

Most of the service requests were related to general medical examination (61,398). The most common diseases for which service requests were made include the following: unspecified acute upper respiratory tract infection (43,222), essential (primary) hypertension (40,149), non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (32,448), normal pregnancy observation (22,060), general medical screening and examination of people without complaints (21,269), etc.

A total of 1,205 vital and costly operations were performed. The most expensive surgeries are cardiology/cardiovascular surgery (686), ophthalmology (278), neurology/neurosurgery (87), urology (78) and traumatology (47). It should be noted that 35 operations of cardiology/cardiovascular surgery were performed on children.
