Meeting held with WHO representatives at the Agency

The Chairman of the Executive Board of the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) Zaur Aliyev held a meeting with Datta Siddhartha Sankar, the Programme Manager of the Vaccine-Preventable diseases and Immunization division of the WHO Regional Office for Europe and Roberta Pastore, the Team Lead of the Analytics and Monitoring section of the same division.

The meeting was attended by Vugar Qurbanov, the Acting Chairman of the Executive Board of the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB), Hande Harmanci, WHO Representative and Head of Country Office in Azerbaijan, Sevinj Hasanova, Manager of WHO implemented “COVID-19 vaccination support” project, Ruslan Abdullayev, head of international relations department, Yagut Qarayeva, head of the Strategic Development Department of TABIB.

“The COVID-19 vaccination support project”, jointly implemented by European Union and WHO since June 2021, has been discussed at the meeting. It was noted that as part of the project, it is planned to provide healthcare facilities subordinated to TABIB with cold chain equipment for transportation and storage of vaccines.

It was underlined that, a total of 2877 medical workers involved in the vaccination process, including 673 doctors and 2204 nurses employed at healthcare facilities in the capital and regions, were trained as part of the project. The exchange of views was held on WHO support for routine immunization in Azerbaijan and importance of vaccination in protecting public health.

The purpose of the visit, which will last until February 24, is to discuss support for vaccination against COVID-19 in the country and the development of an action plan for routine immunization with reference to the European Immunization Agenda 2030.
