The joint statement of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance and Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions

The spread of Omicron strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus has recently been reported around the world.

The World Health Organization calls on countries to reconsider their efforts to fight the disease.

In this regard, considering the specific features of the new strain, changes are made to testing strategies, quarantine periods, methods for medical observation and treatment of patients.

Considering international experience and the results of existing scientific research, the isolation period (quarantine) of persons with "positive" SARS-CoV-2 PCR test results and their identified "close contact" in our country is reduced from 14 to 7 days from January 24, 2022,

Due to genetic features of the Omicron mutation, we ask our citizens to follow the instructions of our health authorities aimed at reducing the risk of infection with the virus.

  • Wear masks
  • Regularly wash your hands or use hand sanitizer
  • Keep social distancing
  • Avoid crowds and close contact
  • Get vaccinated

If you are infected with the virus

  • Self-isolate as much as possible from others in your home
  • Regularly ventilate the space you are in with natural airflow
  • Take your body temperature twice a day
  • Drink a lot of water
  • When the temperature rises (38 ℃ and above), you can use antipyretics.
  • Contact your family doctor at Family Health Center (polyclinic) if a high fever (when >38.5℃ is not reduced with antipyretics) worries you and lasts more than 5 days
  • Avoid antibiotic, antiviral, hormonal, immunity-boosting treatments, and intravenous fluids at home.
  • Do not take medications on the advice of a neighbor, relative, acquaintance.
  • Do not receive treatment on the advice of nurses.

Let's not forget that vaccination remains the most effective tool in the fight against any mutation of the virus. We urge our citizens to be vaccinated with a booster dose.
