The removal of the appendix, known as an appendectomy, performed in the abdominal cavity, is covered by mandatory health insurance. From 2022 to April 2024, a total of 17,671 appendectomy operations were conducted under mandatory health insurance.
Appendicitis, the inflammation of the appendix, is an acute surgical condition. As the disease progresses, inflammatory fluid accumulates in the appendix, disrupting its blood supply and potentially leading to perforation.
Complications from appendicitis can be severe and even life-threatening. Timely diagnosis and surgical intervention are crucial to prevent serious complications.
Clinical symptoms of appendicitis can vary between children and the elderly, but a common feature is pain that begins in the abdomen and gradually shifts to the lower right side. Palpation of this area often exacerbates the pain, making it severe. Other symptoms typically include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and high fever. In some cases, the disease may present asymptomatically, which can lead to various complications.
Appendectomy is performed by a surgeon using either an open or laparoscopic method, depending on the results of laboratory and instrumental examinations. Both methods are covered by mandatory health insurance.
Diagnostic procedures for appendicitis may include general blood and urine tests, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and other relevant analyses. Instrumental examinations such as ultrasound (USM), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and abdominal radiography may be prescribed based on the clinical indications.
Pre-operative examinations, consultations, resuscitation, anesthesia, inpatient laboratory and instrumental tests, manipulations, medications, and medical expenses, as well as the feeding of the patient and an adult that accompanies a child up to 12 years old, are covered by mandatory health insurance.
This procedure is available under mandatory health insurance at state medical facilities supervised by TABIB, the Scientific Surgery Center named after M.A. Topchubashov of the Ministry of Health, and the Scientific Research Pediatric Institute named after K.Y. Farajova.
