On November 13, 2025, the next important stage of cooperation between the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (Agency) and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Republic of Azerbaijan took place. Within the framework of the “Small Volumes ODA (Official Development Assistance)” program implemented under the “Grant Assistance Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, medical equipment was donated to Ganja City United Hospital (Hospital) under the of the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions. This initiative aims to ensure easier and equal access to medical services for vulnerable population groups, especially residents of surrounding regions, including children.
The Chairman of the Board of the Agency, Zaur Aliyev, stated at the handover ceremony that such projects make a significant contribution to the development of the country’s healthcare system: “The main goal of the project is to enhance both the accessibility and quality of medical services for vulnerable groups of the population. I would particularly like to emphasize that the donated medical equipment includes modern devices for general and urological surgery, diagnostics, anesthesiology, resuscitation, and intensive care. The equipment to be used in the surgical and intensive care units is of vital importance for patients in critical condition. We believe that the new equipment will help improve access to quality and modern medical services for the population of the region within the framework of mandatory health insurance.”
Executive Director of the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions Vugar Gurbanov noted in his speech that in 2024, with the support of the Government of Korea, the “Support for Medical Examination of Children” project was implemented in Ganja, and additionally, 18 pieces of modern medical equipment for cardiovascular diseases were donated to the hospital under the “Official Assistance to Small-Scale Development” program:
“This hospital provides the highest number of medical services in the region, it also receives a significant number of patients from neighboring districts. The donated equipment will enable us to deliver higher-quality medical services, which is extremely important for implementing a modern healthcare management model in our country.”
“Ganja is a true treasure of Azerbaijan. I am proud that, thanks to the projects implemented together with the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance, we have been able to make a real contribution to the healthcare system of this city and Azerbaijan as a whole. The initiatives carried out over the past three years have not only improved the quality of medical services but also strengthened friendship and mutual trust between the two countries,” said Kang Kymgu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Azerbaijan.
The director of the hospital, Ilkin Ismayilov, expressed gratitude to the relevant institutions for their support: “Citizens from 17 surrounding regions seek medical care at medical institutions operating under the hospital. The modern medical equipment donated to help meet these needs enhances the technical capabilities of our medical institution. The new equipment will enable the medical staff to work more efficiently and will raise the level of service provided to citizens.”
The donated equipment includes an X-ray machine, defibrillator, anaesthesia machine, patient monitors, operating lamps and tables, electrosurgical and aspiration machines, resuscitation beds, baby incubators, and more. This equipment will be used in surgical, intensive care, and resuscitation units, ensuring timely treatment of high-risk patients. It will support safer and more accurate surgical procedures, improve anaesthesia and resuscitation processes, enable special-condition care for newborns, and enhance the effectiveness of urological interventions. The total value of the donated medical equipment is 350,000 US dollars.
It should be noted that this project is the third donation of medical equipment implemented under the “Small Volumes ODA (Official Development Assistance)” program within the “Grant Assistance Framework Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan”. In previous years, as part of the program, medical equipment was donated to state medical institutions under the Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions to support maternal and child health, and examination kiosks were supplied during the pandemic.
