On January 16, 2019 a memorandum of understanding signed between the State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance (hereinafter the Agency) and the United Nations Children's Fund. The memorandum was co-signed by Zaur Aliyev, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Agency and Edward Carwardine, UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan.
The Chairman of the Executive Board of the Agency noted that memorandum determines the framework for cooperation between two organizations. He also added that the memorandum will contribute to the expansion of the coverage of measures focusing on protection of the health of mothers and child in Azerbaijan.
UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan emphasized that this cooperation will support health reforms and implementation of the mandatory health insurance in the country.
Within the framework of the memorandum signed between the parties the integration of Baby-Friendly Hospital Standards into the maternity hospitals’ (maternity departments) standards, the organization of trainings on Guidelines of Monitoring of Child Development and Infant and Young Child Feeding counseling for frontline health workers as part of their capacity building on essential child health and nutrition services is planned.
